Joan Kirsch is a freelance speaker on women's issues. Some of the topics she covers are "Going forward with your life, Friendships, Socializing, Widowhood, Divorce, Second times around, Solo traveling, and Feeling good about yourself."
Attending New York University, Joan earned a B.S. Degree in Education and two Masters' Degrees, one in Health and another in Human Sexuality. She began her career in education in the New York City Schools teaching classes in physical education, dance and health. Later she spent 10 years dealing with sex education, drug prevention and counseling in the City schools. During that time she directed peer groups and lectured student assemblies and parent groups.
After retiring from teaching, Joan became interested in working with women. Her forthcoming book focuses on getting on with life after such set backs and disappointments as divorce or death. Her stories about coping come from personal experiences as well as those of others who are allowing her to tell their stories.
Joan was widowed many years ago. "I had 2 choices at that time — go out into the world alone or sit home alone. I decided to go out and live again," she writes. She enjoys injecting some humor into her talks.
Whether working with small or large groups, individual participation is always welcome. Topics can be general or specific. They can be geared to your group's special interests in "What is said here, stays here" sessions or confidential private sessions.
Ms. Kirsch grew up and spent most of her life in Brooklyn, New York. She still has her distinctive Brooklyn accent. Couple that with her strong desire to help others and you will see why she is so admired among women's groups.
